Alef University Graduation in Nairobi, Kenya — November 2025

Tonya and I were invited to one of the student’s graduation celebrations. There were close to 50 people there including mother, brothers and sisters, and church members. This person was Pastor Allan Kiptangus of Nairobi. Pastor Allan oversees 8 churches in Kenya. I put a couple of photos below. His mom is in the red dress. She is 76 years old and drove 5 hours to see her son’s graduation. She is a mother to 13 children (10 boys and 3 girls) and 4 of the men are pastors.

Many of the graduates wanted a photo with Professor Mike, which was a humbling experience. They thanked me for telling stories about my struggles in college and not giving up. I was told by one of the church leaders that my style of teaching was transformational and encouraging. I was just trying to be me.

They took it easy on me for Sunday. I only had to preach at one church. They normally drive you around the city to preach at 2 to 3 churches!

The next question some of you may have is, “Did you go on any safaris?” You have to do that when you go to Kenya! I will send out another email in the near future with some animal photos.

Tonya and I want to thank you for your prayers and encouragement.

Sincerely,
Mike & Tonya Bourassa
